Lake Sirio, Lake San Michele, Lake Pistono, Lake Campagna and Lake Nero – these are the five lakes – a beautiful lakeside area teeming with plant and animal life in the Eastern Canavese area. Each one of these lakes has its own unique characteristics.
Lake Sirio (2.3 km) lies in a rocky, hilly setting, dominated by the Serra d’Ivrea; San Michele (2 km) is the smallest lake; Lake Pistono (5 km) is surrounded by a fairytale landscape; Lake Nero (6 km) is the most secluded and unspoilt; Lake Campagna (3 km) is perfect for a walk along its shores.

The largest lake in Piedmont, where two souls live in harmony: one is glamorous and the other is natural. This is a protected area of great interest and is included among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites on account of its ancient Bronze Age pile-dwelling village.
Lake Viverone (16 km) is also a great swimming destination and has well-equipped beaches with sun loungers, beach umbrellas and a café. Masino Castle (19 km) dates back to the 11th century and dominates the Lower Canavese plain. An extraordinary tour takes you through the frescoed, finely-furnished noble halls and a museum of carriages that once belonged to the Counts of Valperga. The castle is owned by FAI – the Italian National Trust – and is included in the Canavese Castles circuit.
A short distance away stands the Ducal Castle of Agliè (22 km). This elegant Baroque-style Savoy residence has been used as a film set for major TV series and films, including “Elisa di Rivombrosa” and “Beauty and the Beast”. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Savoy Residences.
The circuit of Lower Canavese castles continues with the 12th-century Mazzè Castle (26 km), featuring two manors, and Montalto Castle (6 km), on the peak of Mount Crovero.
